For the first two I followed a 24 week programme, which broke down into four 6 week periods. With the first period acclimitising to the volume of training needed I opted to skip that this time round, partly because I didn't think it necessary, but more so because there wasn't time between IM South Africa and now.
I've done a bit of comparison between my three sets of preparation by looking at weeks 7-23:
Event | Total Mileage | Miles per week | Swim pw | Bike pw | Run pw |
IM Switzerland 2007 | 2,870 | 159.5 | 3.5 | 131.7 | 24.2 |
IM South Africa 2008 | 2,971 | 165.1 | 2.6 | 138.1 | 24.4 |
IM UK | 3,285 | 182.5 | 3.7 | 155.5 | 23.4 |
So, yes I think I've done enough.
How quick will I go? We'll just have to wait and see. Sub 11 hours would be nice but that depends on the course, conditions, nutrition, pacing, mood and gear.
Will I get the club swim record of 55:42? That would be nice, though do hope to get under the hour this time.
Just so long as I get that finishers medal.
